Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 And ten nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 The night as it advances, 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood – thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 O the contented soul! 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 enter My Paradise! 30
