Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 and the ten nights, 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
