Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the dawn, 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
