Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 and the ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 and by the passing night, 4 Considering all this - could there be, to anyone endowed with reason, a [more] solemn evidence of the truth? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 O the contented soul! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 So enter among My servants, 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
