Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the break of Day 1 And ten nights, 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
