Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
