Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 and by the passing night, 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
