Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 And by ten nights, 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 O satisfied soul, 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 So enter among My servants, 29 And enter into My garden. 30
