Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And the ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 led rebellious lives, 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 Enter among My servants 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
