Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the break of Day 1 And [by] ten nights 2 The multiple and the one, 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Join My servants. 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
