Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 And by ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 All of them committed excesses in their lands, 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 and you have a love of wealth which can never be satisfied. 20 No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 O satisfied soul, 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 So enter among My servants, 29 And enter into My garden. 30
