Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I CALL TO witness the dawn 1 and the ten nights! 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 All of them committed excesses in their lands, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 [But to the righteous, God will say], "O soul at peace, 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
