Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the dawn; 1 And ten nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. 26 Serene soul, 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
