Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the dawn 1 And [by] ten nights 2 The multiple and the one, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 and Allah will bind as none other can bind. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! 29 Enter then My garden." 30
