The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city. 1 and thou art a lodger in this land; 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 He saith: I have wasted riches plenteous. 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 Or the giving of food in a day of hunger 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 And moreover to be of those who accepted faith, and who urged patience to one another and who urged graciousness to one another. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 And (as for) those who disbelieve in our communications, they are the people of the left hand. 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
