Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 We have indeed created man surrounded by hardships. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 He may say (boastfully); Wealth have I squandered in abundance! 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 and shown him the two highways [of good and evil]? 10 So he did not quickly enter the steep valley. 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 or the feeding, upon a day of [one's own] hunger, 14 An orphan, of kin, 15 or some needy person in distress, 16 Then he became of those who believed and enjoined on each other steadfastness and enjoined on each other compassion. 17 These are the fellows of the righthand. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
