The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 And you shall be made free from obligation in this city-- 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 that We have created the human being to face a great deal of hardship. 4 Does he think that never will anyone overcome him? 5 He says, “I destroyed vast wealth.” 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 So he did not quickly enter the steep valley. 11 And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?- 12 (It is) the setting free of a slave, 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 or a needy man in misery; 16 Then will he be of those who believe, and enjoin patience, (constancy, and self-restraint), and enjoin deeds of kindness and compassion. 17 Those who do so are the people of the right hand, 18 and [as for] those who are bent on denying the truth of Our revelations, they are the people of the left hand, 19 [with] fire closing in upon them. 20
