Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I do not (need to) swear by this town (Mecca) 1 and thou art a lodger in this land; 2 And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;- 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Does he, then, think that no one has power over him? 5 He boasts, "I have spent wealth abundant!" 6 Does he, then, think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways? 10 But he has not attempted the ascent. 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 It is the freeing of a slave 13 Or, feeding, in a day of privation, 14 An orphan, of kin, 15 Or a poor man cleaving to the dust. 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 On them is fire closed over. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
