The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 Certainly We have created man to be in distress. 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 and guided him on the two highways? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 or giving food on a day of hunger 14 of an orphan near of kin, 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 and being, withal, of those who have attained to faith, and who enjoin upon one another patience in adversity, and enjoin upon one another compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand. 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
