Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 Verily, We have created man in toil. 4 Does he think then that no one has power over him? 5 He says (boastfully): "I have wasted wealth in abundance!" 6 Deemest he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 Or the feeding on a day of hunger. 14 To an orphan near of kin. 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 and, then besides this, he be one of those who believed, and enjoined upon one another steadfastness and enjoined upon one another compassion. 17 These are the fellows of the righthand. 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
