The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 And you shall be made free from obligation in this city-- 2 or by the great father and his wonderful son (Abraham and Ishmael) 3 We have indeed created man surrounded by hardships. 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 He says, "I have spent enormous wealth." 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Did We not give him two eyes, 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 and shown him the two highways [of good and evil]? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 The freeing of a slave, 13 or the feeding, upon a day of [one's own] hunger, 14 to an orphaned relative 15 Or to the indigent (down) in the dust. 16 And moreover to be of those who accepted faith, and who urged patience to one another and who urged graciousness to one another. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 Over them shall be Fire closing round. 20
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
