The Town (Al-Balad)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city. 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 or by the great father and his wonderful son (Abraham and Ishmael) 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Thinketh he that none hath power over him? 5 He will say: 'I have destroyed a vast wealth' 6 Deemest he that none beholdeth him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 And shown him the two ways (good and evil)? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 (It is:) freeing the bondman; 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 To an orphan near of kin. 15 Or the poor in distress; 16 and, then besides this, he be one of those who believed, and enjoined upon one another steadfastness and enjoined upon one another compassion. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right. 18 And those who disbelieve in Our signs, they are the Companions of the Left Hand; 19 with the Fire closed above them. 20
