Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 And thou art an indweller of this city - 2 and [I call to witness] parent and offspring: 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 He boasts, "I have spent wealth abundant!" 6 Does he, then, think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 and guided him on the two highways? 10 But he would not try to ascend the steep uphill road... 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 It is the freeing of a slave 13 Or the giving of food in a day of privation 14 of an orphaned relative 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 Then he became one of those who believed, and recommended one another to perseverance and patience, and (also) recommended one another to pity and compassion. 17 Such are they that have attained to righteousness; 18 But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand. 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
