The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city - 2 And by the begetter (i.e. Adam) and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny); 3 that We have created the human being to face a great deal of hardship. 4 Does he think then that no one has power over him? 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 The freeing of a slave! 13 or the feeding, upon a day of [one's own] hunger, 14 To the orphan with claims of relationship, 15 or some needy person in distress, 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 As for those who disbelieve in Our revelations, they are the people of the left 19 The Fire will vault them over. 20
