Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city. 1 and you are a lodger in this country. 2 And by the giver of birth, and whom he fathered, 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And shown him the two highways? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 (It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.) 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 with the Fire closed above them. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
