Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ I swear by this city (Makkah); 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And by the begetter (i.e. Adam) and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny); 3 Verily, We have created man in toil. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He boasts, "I have spent wealth abundant!" 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 And what will make you comprehend what the uphill road is? 12 The freeing of a slave! 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 Of a related orphan, 15 or of a needy [stranger] lying in the dust 16 Then he became one of those who believed, and recommended one another to perseverance and patience, and (also) recommended one another to pity and compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 [with] fire closing in upon them. 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
