The Town (Al-Balad)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 We created the human in fatigue. 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 He will say: 'I have destroyed a vast wealth' 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue, and a pair of lips?- 9 And shown him the two highways? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 The freeing of a slave! 13 the giving of food upon the day of hunger 14 of an orphan near of kin, 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 and [as for] those who are bent on denying the truth of Our revelations, they are the people of the left hand, 19 over them is a Fire covered down. 20
