Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ I swear by yonder city 1 and you are a lodger in this country. 2 and [I call to witness] parent and offspring: 3 That We created man in toil and trouble. 4 Does he think then that no one has power over him? 5 He will say: 'I have destroyed a vast wealth' 6 Does man think that no one saw him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And shown him the two highways? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 the giving of food upon the day of hunger 14 To an orphan near of kin. 15 or some needy person in distress, 16 then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
