Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ I do not (need to) swear by this town (Mecca) 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 Assuredly We have created man in trouble. 4 Does he think that never will anyone overcome him? 5 He may say (boastfully); Wealth have I squandered in abundance! 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 And a tongue, and a pair of lips?- 9 And shown him the two highways? 10 Yet he has not scaled the height. 11 And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?- 12 To free a neck (from the burden of debt or slavery), 13 Or the feeding on a day of hunger. 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 or of a needy [stranger] lying in the dust 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 The Fire will vault them over. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
