Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Makkah); 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 And the parent and the offspring, 3 Verily, We have created man in toil. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He saith: I have wasted riches plenteous. 6 Does man think that no one saw him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 Have We not shown him the ways of good and evil? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 (It is) the freeing of a slave, 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 to an orphan near of kin; 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 and to be one of those who believe and urge one another to steadfastness and compassion. 17 Such are they that have attained to righteousness; 18 And (as for) those who disbelieve in our communications, they are the people of the left hand. 19 The Fire will vault them over. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
