The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the sun and its midmorning, 1 And by the moon as it follows it (the sun); 2 and by the day as it reveals its glory 3 And the night when it enshroudeth him, 4 By the heaven and That which built it 5 and the earth and all its expanse! 6 by the soul and how He formed it, 7 Then He inspired it to understand what is right and wrong for it; 8 prosperous is he who purified it, 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 Samood gave the lie (to the truth) in their inordinacy, 11 Behold, the most wicked man among them was deputed (for impiety). 12 Then the messenger of God said to them, "This is God's she-camel. Let her drink." 13 But they called him a liar and slaughtered her, therefore their Lord crushed them for their sin and levelled them (with the ground). 14 And for Him is no fear of its consequences. 15
