The Sun (Al-Shams)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
And by the sun and its brightness; 1 By the Moon as she follows him; 2 And [by] the day when it displays it 3 And the night when it enshroudeth him, 4 By the heaven and Him Who builded it, 5 And the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 And by oath of the soul and by oath of Him Who made it proper. 7 and inspired it with its sin and its piety, 8 He is indeed successful who causeth it to grow, 9 and truly lost is he who buries it [in darkness]. 10 (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride, 11 when that most hapless wretch from among them rushed forward [to commit his evil deed,] 12 then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 And He does not fear its coming behind (to take vengeance). 15
