The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the sun and its noon-time brightness, 1 By the Moon as she follows him; 2 and by the day as it displays the sun's glory, 3 and the night as it veils it darkly! 4 By the Firmament and its (wonderful) structure; 5 And by the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 The soul and how it was integrated 7 And inspired in it the knowledge of its sins and its piety. 8 Indeed successful is the one who made it pure. 9 And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]. 10 The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing, 11 when the most wicked man among them rose up. 12 But the Messenger of Allah [Salih (Saleh)] said to them: "Be cautious! Fear the evil end. That is the she-camel of Allah! (Do not harm it) and bar it not from having its drink!" 13 But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and rased (their dwellings). 14 He has no fear of its sequel. 15
