The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 by the moon when it follows the sun, 2 The day when it reveals his radiance, 3 And by oath of the night when it hides it 4 And by oath of the heaven and by oath of Him Who made it. 5 and by the earth and by Him Who stretched it out; 6 by the soul and how He formed it, 7 and how it is imbued with moral failings as well as with consciousness of God! 8 He is indeed successful who causeth it to grow, 9 and failed has he who seduces it. 10 Thamood belied in their pride 11 when the most wicked man among them rose up. 12 although God's apostle had told them, "It is a she-camel belonging to God, so let her drink [and do her no harm]!" 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 He has no fear of its sequel. 15
