The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the sun and his early morning splendour, 1 by the moon, which follows it, 2 And the day when it shows it, 3 and by the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 By the heaven and Who built it, 5 And [by] the earth and He who spread it 6 by the soul and Who shaped it 7 and inspired it with knowledge of evil and piety, 8 prosperous is he who purified it, 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 Thamood belied in their pride 11 when their arch-criminal rose up in rage. 12 the Messenger of Allah said to them: '(This is) the shecamel of Allah, let her drink' 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 He does not fear the result (of their destruction). 15
