The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its noon-time brightness, 1 And [by] the moon when it follows it 2 and by the day when it displays him 3 And the night when it enshroudeth him, 4 The heavens and its architecture, 5 By the Earth and its (wide) expanse: 6 And by Nafs (Adam or a person or a soul, etc.), and Him Who perfected him in proportion; 7 And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness, 8 He is indeed successful who causeth it to grow, 9 And he will indeed fail who corrupts it. 10 The tribe of Thamud denied with rebellion. 11 when that most hapless wretch from among them rushed forward [to commit his evil deed,] 12 Then Allah's Messenger warned them: “Hands off the she-camel and her drink!” 13 In response they belied him, and hamstrung the she camel – so Allah put ruin over them because of their sins and flattened their dwellings. 14 He does not fear the result (of their destruction). 15
