The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 and the day in splendour 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 And rejects goodness, 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
