The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 and by Him Who created the male and the female: 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 and believes in the finest, 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 But only seeking the Countenance of his Lord the Most High. 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
True are the words of God the Almighty.
