The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the night when it covers 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise). 21
