The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the night when it covers 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 and by Him Who created the male and the female: 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 and rejects what is right, 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 None except the most wicked will enter it. 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 For, distant from it shall remain he who is truly conscious of God: 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
