The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night when it covers 1 And the day resplendent 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
