The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient. 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
