The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 And rejects the best, 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance; 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
