The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 But save him who fears 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
