The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. 21
True are the words of God the Almighty.
