The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 As for him who gave out his wealth (for Allah's sake) and abstained (from disobeying Him), 5 And believes in Al-Husna. 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 and he belied the finest 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 Who belieth and turneth away. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 He verily will be content. 21
