The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
