The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 and he belied the finest 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 He verily will be content. 21
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
