The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
