The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. 7 But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient. 8 And denied the best matter, 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
